JEEGenie — AI-powered JEE preparation

Overview

JEEGenie ("we", "us", or "the service") is an online preparation platform for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) run by the National Testing Agency of India. We help students practice previous year questions, take adaptive mock tests, and track mastery of the JEE syllabus. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have about your data.

By creating an account or signing in with Google, you agree to the practices described here and in our Terms of Service.

Information we collect

When you use JEEGenie, we collect the following:

Account information. Your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive this from Google's OAuth 2.0 flow using the openid, email, and profile scopes only. We do not request or receive access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google service.
Study activity. Tests you take, questions you answer, time spent per question, topics bookmarked or flagged, mistakes and error patterns, and chat history with the Smart tutor. This is used to personalize your practice plan and track your progress.
Device and usage data. IP address, browser type, device type, and anonymized analytics about which features you use. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How we use your information

To provide the core service — serving questions, tracking answers, computing mastery scores, and generating personalized study plans.
To authenticate you on return visits and keep your session secure.
To operate the Smart tutor, which sends your question, your recent chat messages, and a study-context summary (such as your weak topics and recent mistakes) to an AI provider — one of Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), or DeepSeek — to generate explanations. We do not send your name, email, or phone number to these providers. DeepSeek is operated from China, so tutor content routed to it is processed on servers outside India; we send only the question text, recent chat, and study-context summary (never your identity or contact details), and you can avoid this path by not using the Smart tutor.
To notify you about critical product updates, tier expirations, and account security events. We do not send marketing email without your explicit opt-in.
To diagnose bugs and improve the service based on anonymized usage patterns.

Where your data is stored

All user data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the us-east-1 region. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; other fields are encrypted at rest by the managed database service. Data in transit is protected by TLS 1.2 or higher.

Third parties

We share information only with the following service providers, strictly to operate JEEGenie:

Google Identity (OAuth 2.0) — to authenticate users who choose "Continue with Google". Google receives only the data needed to complete the sign-in handshake.
Anthropic — the Smart tutor sends question text, recent chat messages, and a study-context summary to Anthropic's Claude API to generate explanations. Anthropic's data retention policy governs that content. No name, email, or phone is sent.
Google (Gemini) — the Smart tutor may also use Google's Gemini API for the same purpose, sending the same content (question, recent chat, study-context summary; no name, email, or phone). Google's API data policy governs that content.
DeepSeek — the Smart tutor may also use DeepSeek's API for the same purpose, sending the same content (question, recent chat, study-context summary; no name, email, or phone). DeepSeek is operated from China, so this is a cross-border transfer processed under DeepSeek's data policy. No identity or contact information is sent.
Razorpay — our payment processor. When you buy a plan, Razorpay handles your payment details (we never see or store your card/UPI credentials) and returns the order/payment status so we can issue a GST invoice. Razorpay's privacy policy governs the payment information you enter.
Amazon Web Services — hosts the application and database infrastructure under AWS' standard data processing terms.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.

Your rights and choices

Access and export. You can export your test history and answers from the app at any time.
Deletion. You can delete your account by emailing us at the address below. We will remove your personal data from our active databases within 30 days of a verified request, with limited exceptions where retention is required by law.
Correction. You can update your name and contact information in your profile settings.
Opt out of notifications. You can disable non-critical emails in your notification preferences.

Children and parental consent

JEEGenie is intended for students preparing for the JEE and NEET. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act"), anyone under the age of 18 is a child. If you are under 18, you may use JEEGenie only with the consent of a parent or lawful guardian. When you create an account you are asked to confirm your age and, if you are a minor, to confirm that a parent or guardian has read and consented to these terms on your behalf; by submitting the sign-up form with that box checked, you make that confirmation. A parent or guardian may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or by deleting the account.

For users we know to be children, we do not carry out tracking or behavioural monitoring for advertising purposes, and we do not serve targeted advertising. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to review, correct, or delete their child's data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for significant changes, email registered users at least 7 days before the change takes effect.
